QRB Gloriana

Between January and March 2018, we carried out restoration work on the magnificent Queen’s Royal Row Barge, Gloriana, which was docked in Gravesend.

Participating in this project was a truly rewarding experience. Although I am a qualified painter and decorator, I acquired numerous new skills throughout the course of the work. This was my first time varnishing a boat, where precision and attention to detail were essential. Every brushstroke needed to be applied correctly, under carefully controlled temperatures—no small feat given the snowy conditions at the time. I was even given the opportunity to learn the art of gilding.

Perseverance and patience proved invaluable, resulting in a very satisfied project manager and a proud, fulfilled decorator.
